Corinne Jörgensen (Director of the School of Library and Information Studies and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research for the College of Communication and Information) earned her MLS and PhD from the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University. She is the author or coauthor of over seventy-five publications in the area of organization of information, with a focus on cognitive foundations of these activities and indexing and retrieval of visual materials.  She has won four national awards for her research and publications. Her book Image Retrieval: Theory and Research (2003) is considered the authoritative resource in the area. She is well known nationally and internationally for her work in these areas. As a member of the National Committee on Information Technology Standards, Dr. Jörgensen participated in the development of the ISO/IEC MPEG-7 standard for content description of multimedia, and she serves on international program and awards committees. Her research currently focuses on the role of social networking technologies in the organization of information and the convergences among libraries, archives, and museums, and their roles in preserving and providing access to the cultural, social, historical, and natural heritages.  She is active in professional organizations for Library and Information Science, is a member of the Florida Library Association Executive Board, and is the FLA representative to the ALA Council.
